The US Open of Surfing was crazy! Bummed I was not able to actually be there but wow... LAKEY PETERSON was the stand out of the women to me. She's only 16 years old and won the Women's Jr. and came second in the Women's! As if her section in Leave A Message wasn't foretelling enough of a world title being in her future.
Now, Sally Fitzgibbons... I almost didn't think she would make it through the semi's. Coco Ho was dominating up until literally under the LAST second... Sal got up right before the "hooter" went off and got the score she needed. She's one focused girl. Congrats to her on the win! But don't count Coco Ho out... the Hawaiian definitely has what it takes. I don't think I'll forget seeing that moment between her and her legend of a dad in the water... it was a "Forever For Family" moment, as Coco's tattoo says.
I have to say I'm very impressed, not surprised, with Laura Enever, she needed the results for requalification and she pulled through. Pressure makes or breaks 'em and it made her in this event. So congrats to Laura!
Now for some random thoughts on the event... Laura Enever's wetsuits. The CUTEST things! Hot pink? Yes please. All I wanna know is when and where can I get one?? Not to mention Stephanie Gilmore's board... so cute!! Also, ya know, I have to give it up to Alana Blanchard, despite her results. She went into that competition not having surfed for 2 weeks due to back problems and still did pretty well. Although, somebody should check out what's in her "green juice" if she's getting lost and trying to get in other people's cars! Haha.
Anyways, now that this event is over, It's sort of sad knowing there's a while before the next world tour event in 2012. But thankfully, some star events are left for our enjoyment!
