The women’s Pantin
Classic Pro came to an end today. The ladies surfed well in this
competition, but it was Kauai girl, Malia
Manuel who stole the show! With a high combined score of an 18.63 against Reunion
Island’s Cannelle Bulard in the
semi-finals, she went on to score a total of 16.76 points to defeat Californian,
Courtney
Conlogue’s 14.34 points in the finals!
The event brought out 7 out of the 17 women’s 2011 world
tour surfers who are trying to improve their ratings and/or re-qualify for
the tour: Courtney Conlogue, Alana
Blanchard, Jessi Miley-Dyer, Paige Hareb, Sofia Mulanovich, Pauline Ado, and Lee-Ann Curren. Courtney was the
only world tour surfer in the final/semi-finals.
What really impressed me about the competition was that
there was an 11 year old competing- Meah Collins! Thanks to Diogo Alpendre (Pantin Classic
pro commentator) for the information. Crazy stuff! Definitely see a bright
future in women’s surfing for this kid!
Pantin, Spain seemed to be a great venue
and beautiful location
for the competition. I can only hope to go there someday!
While the Pantin Classic Pro is over, the women aren’t
through yet… last stop of the 2011 star events- Billabong Women's Azores Island Pro
in Sao Miguel, Portugal, September 26th -29th. Update on
that coming soon. Stay tuned!
